People: Faces of Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH (TM216) — That’s My 216 Faces of Cleveland: 09/15/2018

People: Omar Fattah

“The heart and Soul” of St. Eds football.

CLEVELAND, OH (TM216) — Ask any member of the St. Edward Eagles their thoughts senior Omar Fattah, and you’re likely to get some responses like this:

As St. Eds hits the road for their season opener in the Kestone State with Erie McDowell, St. Eds has their eyes on another run toward the post season. If they are to achieve that goal, plenty of motivation will be coming from Fattah.

Whether on offense, defense, or the sidelines, it is clear to see the immediate impact Fattah seems to have on his team mates.

“He’s the heart and soul of this team,” says Head Coach Tom Lombardo, “he’s just got great spirit and enthusiasm. He loves to hit, he loves to lift.”

People: St. Ignatius Football Preview 17′

Wildcats eye redemption following 2016 state runner-up finish.

CLEVELAND, OH (TM216) — It’s been said that nothing motivates victory as much as loss. If that holds true, St. Ignatius is poised for a historic season following a double overtime loss in last season’s state championship game.

It’s one more go for the senior class of 2017. As Mark Bobinski enters the season of dreams he has had no shortage of success already written on the historic Wildcats legacy. At just 5’9″ Bibinski wracked up a total of 1,157 yards in his junior season, accounting for 20 rushing touchdowns.

That thousand yard rusher will serve as captain along side the anchor of his offensive line, Darian Kinnard. Another highly recruited talent for both his size (6’6″ 315 lbs) and skill. Ranked as a 4-star recruit, Kinnard has already received 17 Division 1 scholarship offers leading to his commitment to the University of Kentucky.

In the secondary, Ignatius returns another D1 commit in Justin Sands. An Ivey League student athlete that recently committed to Pennsylvania University, Sands will be joined by Cam Toppin, Matt Viancourt and Connor Kennedy in the secondary. Leaving the Wildcats with one of the most highly recruited defenses in the state.

Week one offers a rare opportunity for the Wildcats, the chance to defeat a team that they currently hold zero wins over, Archbishop Hoban. The Knights lead the series (1-0).

Overall, it is a typical all star level schedule for Ignatius. Three state champion finalists are scheduled including the Knights, St. Xavier Bombers, and Detroit Central Catholic Shamrocks.

The 2017 season opens up Thursday, August 24, at Archbishop Hoban.

2017 Schedule:

8/24/2017 @ Archbishop Hoban (Thursday) 7:00pm

9/1/2017 @ Mentor (Friday) 7:00pm

9/7/2017 vs EUCLID (Saturday) 7:00pm

GCFCA East Ready For Gameday

East ready for GCFCA all star game

CLEVELAND, OH (TM216) — It is East v West, and the East looks primed to ride a dominant defense into Friday night’s Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Association All Star Game.

Coach Joe Beavers and company are ready. On the day our reporters visited Notre Dame College for the East practice, no defender shined quite as much as John Hay defensive back and Wooster commit, Camryn Pollard. Targeted several times by the offense, Pollard was dominant in the secondary. concluding an impressive afternoon with a perfectly timed interception.

With that said, you can not sleep on the offense. Cam Searight is fresh off of a tremendous season on a star studded Cleveland Heights team.
