Food: Gyro George

Family owned and now spotlighted!

CLEVELAND, OH (TM216) — Roar up those engines and roar up those friers, we’re making a food truck stop with this week’s spotlight.

Gyro George has been in business for more than two decades and continues to bring authentic greek food to the people of Cleveland.

Catching up with the daughter of George, Vungelia Glyptis, it is easy to see there is a passion for both family and food

“It’s been really special to have my own parents as my mentors for my entire life, and to see the sacrifices they’ve made for my sister and I to have a good upbringing.” Vungelia said, as work began to wind down for the day.

The business is still rolling, more than two decades after it’s creation, and still bringing authentic greek food to the 216. [interview at bottom of article]

America’s Got Talent Review for June 5th 2018

The talent (and lack there of) is back! Another week, another group of acts that will leave you in awe, or cringing, for the week to come. Let’s go over some of the most memorable from June 5th, 2018.

The dance team from the Dominican Republic. I could imagine that somewhere in the DR there is a youngster imagining themselves under the lights performing for Simon, Mel B, Howie, and Heidi. This may not have been the highlight of the night, not the golden buzzer, but it was the act that captured my imagination. They are an early front runner for me. One move in particular saw ‘dancer A’ extending his knee forward, allowing ‘dancer B’ to step up onto it with one foot and placing the top of his other foot behind ‘dancer A’s head, at this point a third dancer dove through dancer B’s legs towards the audience. Yes that was as confusing to write as it was beautifully executed. They are through the the next round and I’m ready to see what they bring.

Ugh, such a heart wrenching story. I love to hear of people chasing their dreams, it is such a hard journey for anyone. The fact that this woman was told that her skill wasn’t enough because of her weight… terrible. I’d like to think that somewhere her jaw dropping performance dropped the jaw of whoever called her fat, and that said jaw remains locked so it can’t speak nonsense any more. That was mean. ANYWAY! The skill was undeniable. I spent most of the performance impressed with the skill and control but anxiously awaiting the crescendo. Waiting for that moment that would make her voice the one to remember for the night, it came at the end. Standing ovation worthy, and likely… calling it now, at least a semi-finals worthy act.

More so just mean than funny. I wasn’t sure what to expect when he walked out, sorta looking like a blonde Oompa Loompa. I expected a sort of physical comedy, slap stick type of performance. Than the punch line on Tyra was just rude, not funny, just shocking. I knew this was an act that Simon would like. It’s his type of anti-hero performance. It was funny just how cringe worthy it was with what he said to the judges. It was entertaining to see once, but not needed to be seen again.

The golden buzzer of the night. My goodness. We could all do well to strive in similar steps of this man. The person that he is off the stage, with adoption and such, is simply mentor worthy. Such an incredible family. The performance itself started a bit shaky. No doubt that can be attributed to nerves. Absolutely can hear what Simon did as well, there is a unique almost texture to the voice. I don’t know that I see this act getting further than the quarter finals of the live shows. It will likely survive one elimination. But the Golden Buzzer was earned, no doubt, before this man even stepped on stage, it was locked in half way through the song. Good singer, great person, golden.

Next week will apparently feature some type of augmented reality performance. Should be interesting. Either way, I am pumped to have AGT back!

Njoku not impressed with Tyrod’s hair (Tweet)

The roast continues between Browns players on twitter

CLEVELAND, OH (TM216) – – The comedic stylings of David Njoku are on display again on twitter.

The world of tweets continues to be a playground for players as the Browns 2017 first round draft pick now takes aim at newly acquired quarterback, Tyrod Taylor:

If roasting is necessary for the team to come together, this team is already off and rolling. And we will be the beneficiaries of the back and forth.

Vikings Sophomores Start 2017 Strong

a solid start by two sophomores in the paint from game one.

CLEVELAND, OH (TM216) — While the ladies of the Wolstein Center are in a countdown for tipoff on Thursday, those of us watching from the outside can enjoy analyzing a solid start by two sophomores in the paint from game one.

Cleveland State (0-1) enters this season with an abundance of experienced youth. Sophomore ASHANTI ABSHAW led all scorers with 22 points to start the season, now with 60 total starts in her young career. We will talk more about Ashanti soon, but for the purpose of this article we spotlight Vikings’ “artists in the paint” finishing with a most balanced stat line.

Sophomores JADE ELY and MARIAH MILLER each adding thirteen points for the vikings, a career high for Miller. Add in eight points for Miller, and the Milwaukee native was just two rebounds from a double-double.

“i think currently Mariah Miller is probably playing the most consistently,” says coach Kate Peterson Abiad (15th season), “she always gets on the boards and she makes her shots around the bucket.”

That consistency can be added to efficiency, those 13 points coming on only nine attempts.

“She doesn’t really try to create many things, she takes them in the offensive flow and she’s been very successful doing that…she plays system basketball”

Along with Miller, Jade Ely also supplementing her scoring ability by creating shots for those around her. Leading the team win assists (4) and tied for a team high with steals (3), the Sophomore able to make the most out of her first start on the season.

“We crashed the boards and attacked the paint really well tonight,” says Ely, “just taking everybody off the dribble really creates an open shot for our other teammates.”

For Ely and Miller it is the second go around after contributing in year one. Add that to the already experienced contributions of seniors OLIVIA VOSKUHL’s seven rebounds and three steals, as well as eight rebounds for SHADAE BOSLEY, and the Vikings sophomore duo can truly become an X-Factor for this Vikings all around team play.

“Our sophomores are a big part of what our future is… they’re going to bring a lot to our team.Coach Peterson Abiad.

Kareem Hunt and Cleveland Dominate The NFL… It’s Just Not The Browns

Cleveland Dominates The NFL… It’s Just Not The Browns

– – –

As the lights of Monday Night Football shine bright in Kansas City’s Arrowhead Pond, eyes around the league take focus on the red #27 jersey of Kareem Hunt. And why wouldn’t they? With 402 rushing yards entering week four, Hunt is currently the league leader in rushing and the reigning AFC Offensive Player of The Month.

Kareem, the perfect ground weapon to compliment one of the top Tight Ends in football, two-time All-Star, Travis Kelce. An athlete that, much like Hunt, was drafted in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft.

A national spotlight. An opportunity to start the season 4-0. and one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL.

A cross country flight of 2,341 miles from The Arrowhead Pond the contrast could not be more striking.

On the shore of Lake Erie sits First Energy Stadium, quiet. Still sitting cold with the bitter memories of a 31-7 defeat from the afternoon before. Rather than an undefeated season, the Browns are a winless 0-4, following an offense that was entirely stifled by a fellow winless team just the day before.

How much would the Browns benefit from talent the level of Hunt and Kelce…

Is it not poetic that the Browns selected five draft picks over a future record breaking running back that played his high school football just 18 miles from FE Stadium (Willoughby South)?

Is it not poetic that the Browns selected two players over a future two time All-Star playing his high school ball just just 10 miles from FE stadium (Cleveland Heights)?

Who did the Browns select in stead? Barkevious Mingo, Josh Gordon, Myles Garrett, Deshone Kizer, David Njoku, Larry Ogunjobi, and Jabrill Peppers.

“Get It Free” Review 2017, All Survey, No Products

CLEVELAND, OH — I suppose the old saying may hold true. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. E-Mails that do not stop, and pushy salesmen, annnnnd worst of all… no socks.

Allow me to preface this article by saying that I can not conclusively say that the spam came directly from these surveys, the calls and e-mails began within days of taking the survey. I can certainly verify that this is a major waste of my time and I received no products. So I’d like to save your time.

While swiping through snapchat, I saw this ad:

IMG_2201

Free Under Armour Socks? Sounds great! However I learned quickly that this would be far from free.

For about 20 minutes I would fill out survey after survey, all linking to or forwarding to another survey. If you reach the end of a survey and are not forwarded, there is not link to click request your product. Annnnd here comes the worst part.

After taking the survey, and selecting that I was interested in hearing about new career opportunities, I have been spammed constantly by different job posting websites. Even after hitting unsubscribe, you are then messaged by additional companies. I unsubscibe JobRight and get an email from JobSerious, then CareerAlerts, then Candidate Point, then Hireable…

And lets not forget the phone calls. Companies calling, very rude and aggressive salespeople…when asked to be removed from the call list, being told no. If you hang up and try to call back to speak with a manager, the number is not in service.

In conclusion, under absolutely no circumstance would I recommend trying “Get It Free.”
